Phuket is no longer considered a hippy haven. The cost of living in Phuket is higher than in the rest of Thailand. Due to its status as Asia’s finest beach resort and the fact that it has its own international airport, the island is never short of tourists with foreign cash. Luxury hotels and villas will continue to exist for the foreseeable future, for better or worse.
